US labels Pacific Islands a climate ‘region of concern’

A major assessment by US intelligence agencies lists the Pacific islands as one of two “regions of great concern” in the world, because of the adverse effects of climate change.

The assessment of the danger to the Pacific comes in a new National Intelligence Assessment, entitled “Climate Change and International Responses - Increasing Challenges to US National Security Through 2040.”

The report is issued by the US National Intelligence Council (NIC). Experts at the NIC collate information and analysis from 17 US intelligence agencies, ranging from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Security Agency (NSA) to the intelligence branches of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Department of Defence, Homeland . . .
