                 Polyaryletherketone Recipe Let’s start!
Polyaryletherketone (PAEK) polymers are a family of thermoplastic materials which exhibit excellent thermal, chemical and mechanical characteris-
tics. The PAEK family includes polymers such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polyetherketone (PEK), polyetherdiphenyletherketone (PEDEK) and
                 copolymers thereof.
PAEK polymers may be prepared by the polycondensation reaction of a dihalobenzenoid reactant with bisphenol reactant(s) in the presence of a high
temperature solvent and metal carbonates, as described in patents such as EP1879 and WO2014207458. Monohalobenzenoid reactants may also be
present in the polymerisation reaction to control the molecular weight of the product formed without detriment to the thermal or rheological properties BULA PRIME
of the resulting polymer. The monohalobenzenoid may preferably be present at levels from 0-5 mol% of the dihalobenzenoid reactant.
The perfect retirement plan ensuring financial security for you
                 Preparation of Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)
                   1. Diphenyl sulphone (225g), hydroquinone (55.06g), 4,4’- difluorobenzophenone (110-112g), comprising 4-fluorobenzophenone (0 – 5 mol% of the
4,4’- difluorobenzophenone), are charged to a polymerisation reactor. The mixture is stirred under nitrogen flow for 20 minutes before heating to and your loved ones.
160oC. When all monomers have melted sodium carbonate (53.26g) and potassium carbonate (1.38g) are slowly charged to the reactor.
                   2. The reaction mixture is heated to 180oC and held at this temperature for 100 minutes. The reaction mixture is then heated to 200oC and held at
this temperature for a further 20 minutes. Finally the reaction mixture is heated to 310oC and held at this temperature until the desired polymer
                     viscosity is achieved.
                   3. The crude product is discharged from the reactor, cooled, milled and then leached using acetone followed by water.
                   4. Polymerisation is carried out as detailed in steps 1, 2 and 3 above, but including any isomer of fluorobenzophenone (0-5 mol% of the 4,4’- diflu-
                     orobenzophenone)

Preparation of Polyetheretherketone –Polyetherdiphenyletherketone copolymer (PEEK-PEDEK copolymer)
                   5. Diphenyl sulphone (241g), hydroquinone (33.04g – 49.55g), 4,4’-dihydroxybiphenyl (9.31g – 37.24g), 4,4’- difluorobenzophenone (110-112g),
comprising 4-fluorobenzophenone (0 – 5 mol% of the 4,4’- difluorobenzophenone), are charged to a polymerisation reactor. The mixture is
stirred under nitrogen flow for 20 minutes before heating to 160oC. When all monomers have melted sodium carbonate (53.42g) and potassium
carbonate (2.76g) are slowly charged to the reactor.
                   6. Polymerisation is carried out as in steps 2 and 3 above
                   7. Polymerisation is carried out as detailed in steps 5 and 6 above, but including any isomer of fluorobenzophenone (0-5 mol% of the 4,4’- difluoro-
                     benzophenone)
